(Continued from page 5) A. The AFA has a 70-page e-booklet, “Forming an Independent Franchisee Association…a Turn-Key Approach.” It was written specifically for franchisees who wanted to know how to form an association that would represent their issues and concerns in dealing with the franchisor. Just a few of the valuable topics included are: · What makes an independent franchisee association different from advisory councils or other groups sponsored by the franchisor. · The legal in’s and out’s of forming an association. · By-Laws of the association (two complete sets of sample by-laws included). Who qualifies for membership? The list of topics goes on and on. The e-booklet even has sample letters included that you can use as templates. One letter each informs your franchisor, the press and fellow franchisees of your formation. There is also a sample press release to announce your formation. The e-booklet is e-mailed to you for distribution to others within your system for just $50.00. You can purchase this e-booklet on our website, click here. Finally, many franchisee leaders choose to spend a day at the American Franchisee Association’s (AFA) office in Chicago for a Strategic Planning Session. A day away from their businesses is often needed to jump-start the association’s formation. In the session the leaders of the new association outline their vision for the organization, develop a mission statement, set short term goals and long-term objectives. The Strategic Planning Session is facilitated by AFA staff and costs $1,500 for the day. It is a big – and often scary – step to decide to form an independent association. You’ll find, however, that your individual voice is much stronger when amplified by the support and backing of your fellow franchisees. |
