The American Franchisee Association (AFA) is proud to welcome Al Mohajerian as our newest Affiliate Member. Al is well-versed in franchise and distribution law, intellectual property, trademark, copyright, trade dress and trade secret infringement and labor and employment issues, among others. He has represented franchisee clients in state and federal courts over complex commercial matters including franchise terminations, contract, encroachment and antitrust liability. He also understands franchisees’ concerns about being targeted by their franchisors and works to eliminate the effect of intimidation and retaliatory tactics towards his clients. Al was recently appointed to membership on the Franchise Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California. The majority of this Committee’s membership is comprised of franchisor lawyers. Al, however, is committed to watching out for the interests of franchisees during his tenure on this Committee which continues until the Fall of 2006. Samuel Crawford Real Estate Developer

Samuel Crawford, AFA’s Director of Public Policy, is striking out on his own and joining forces with his cousin, Sam Crawford,* to develop commercial real estate properties in and around Birmingham, Alabama. Samuel has worked for the AFA for 10 years, having participated in our first annual convention in March 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada. When Samuel was first hired to work for the AFA he was put in charge of the AFA’s Purchasing Group. He moved into the Public Policy arena with the advent of the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business (WHCSB). Samuel has known AFA’s President, Susan Kezios, for 20 years, having worked for her when she owned a VR Business Brokers franchise in Chicago Heights, Illinois in the early 1980’s. The staff and Board of Directors of the AFA wish Samuel good luck in his new venture! *Samuel Crawford was named after “Samuel” in the Bible. Samuel’s cousin Sam, however, was named after Samuel’s father—who was also named Sam!
